A red cardi is done!

Finally I gave it the proper zip. This is the only decent shot of it. I had just got up from bed and the rest of them were even worse!

I love the way it turned out, though I would make the next cardi a bit smaller. But I guess that´s what you get when you just "guess" the gauge of the yarn and the number of stitches you cast on.
I love my knitting to be that way: if it doesn´t fit me, it will fit someone else...

Oh, I´m in trouble

I haven´t been knitting at all folks. I´m in trouble.
It turns out that on October 1st we´re starting a big building project at home. In fact, we´re almost rebuilding it, plus we´re going to make a whole new floor upstairs (now there´s only one floor at home, we´re building up the first floor from the beggining).
We´re so excited! We´re choosing a lot of stuff. So hardly any knitting get´s done around here. Here is the kitchen furniture we chose:

But with either one of these two handles

And this marble for the table

Oh there are so many, so many other things to decide!!!!
Luckily, I changed completely the outfit for the wedding, so there is no rush anymore for finishing the mohair cardi...

In a hurry

First, I want to thank you all about your lovely comments... It´s nice to be back for me too!...
I´ve been knitting something in a hurry... On september 3rd I´ve got a wedding. A friend from Med School is getting married and I had nothing to put over my shoulders. I realized this last thursday, and since I had less than two weeks to knit, I decided that making a lace shawl was not the best idea (Idon´t know why but it takes me AGES to knit lace).
So I went yarn hunting, and I found these mohair balls for U$ 0,35 each!
I bought 6 of them to make this cardi. I knit tha back and the fronts together and I´m already done with them. I´ve just cast on for the sleeves, but it look like they´re going to take me longer than I thought...
I hope it turn out nice...
So, it´s late and I´m with insomnia. The cammera is in the bedroom and I don´t want to wake Charly up. I guess I´ll better post some pictures tomorrow.

And the back is done

Since I haven´t been able to find a suitable zip for the red cardi, I´ve had no other option than to knit the aran jacket, see?

It was rather hard to follow the charts for me... Now that I work I can only knit at night when I get home, and I´m rather tired... That´s why I made this mistake:

See my finger? I forgot to cable the stems here. Can you notice that in the beggining of this repetition there is no cable? That means that these two bobbles are two rows nearer to the previous ones than the rest. I realized this when I was near the armholes. There was no way I was going to rip that out and reknit 4 repetitions of bobbles...

Anyway, I´m going yarn shopping now since I have a wedding on september 3rd and I NEED to knit myself something to put on my shoulders.

And blocking...

Well, I´m finally blocking my red cardi:

That means I got to start the aran jacket!!! I´m halfway through the back, but I have to tell you this is a tough knit! I´d never knit leaves or bobbles, and it´s quite hard to learn with this super chunky merino... But I think it´s turning out fine.

Finishing... Finishing...

I´m making progress on my red jacket. Today I did all the seams. Now I have to make the collar and find a proper zip.

I´m already thinking about the other jacket though...

I went to my "Yarn District" (a street where you can find nearly 20 yarn stores) and bought some nice merino wool for it

I bought ten of these balls. 100 gr. No idea of the yardage. We don´t use that kind of infromation here, it´s more like guessing, or always buying one or two extra balls/skeins of yarn just in case you run out of... I always like to compare our prices with US prices. This 1000 g of pure merino wool (yes! 1 kg!!) cost U$ 12. That is 36 Argentinian pesos.

I must start this baby soon!!!!

The red cardi

Well, I´ll show you a bit of my red cardi... I don´t really know why I haven´t seen any other knitters talk about VERENA. This mag is so fabulous... It´s from Burda and it´s a German mag, but in Argentina we can buy the ones that are not sold in Spain, and they are in Spanish (of course).

Yes, that´s right... They sell us what Spain didn´t buy (remember it´s winter here yet?). But I´m so in love with it...

Anyway, this is the design I´m making now

And these are the WIP pictures:

The back has a sash worked horizontally, and the other stitches are picked up at the side of the sash.

A close up of the ranglan decreases

And the fronts

I´m almost done with the sleeves too. This was a quick project to knit, thought the ribbing was a bit relaxing (booooring!).

This is what I´m planning to knit next from ny lovely, lovely Verena. Oh if only I could knit much, much faster...
