Some time ago, a girl came into the store where I work at.
She was wearing a store bought sweater, with a very strange shape, and it had this amazing detailig: It had two braids, one horizontal and one vertical, that crossed over the back. The braids were not knit with the sweater. They were long straps of knitted fabric, braided and sewn to the main sweater.
It was amazing. The shape: not so much, but the braids kept me thinking about them for days!
So as I rode on the bus I kept imagining how could I translate that into something one could actually knit all together! Braids coming in opposite directions... I just couldn't figure it out!
And then, slowly this idea began taking shape. And I sketched.
Deciding which yarn to use was actually quite easy.
I wanted to try something different. And since I love Madelinetosh Yarns, and I have ony tried one of their multiple and awesome bases, it was clear that I needed to try another one! The bad thing about these yarns is that they are not available where I live (we don't have much down here), so waiting for the yarn to arrive took AGES!
But it was well worth the wait, oh yes! I received my 9 skeins of Madelinetosh Chunky, in colorway Tart.
Oh boy, this colorway rocks or what??????
And then I started playing with my yarn...
You can read the whole story here:
Jenica Hoodie
So far, it is looking great. The cable is not exactly where I had envisioned it, but I am ok with it!
Hope you all like it too!

Interview!
I wanted to share with you an interview that Michele Meadows did to me for Diamond Yarn's blog.
If you have a minute and want to read it, go over there!
http://www.diamondyarn.com/blog/2011/11/designer-chat-with-joji-locatelli/
As you might know, I work for a yarn company here in Buenos Aires, called Milana Hilados. At Milana, we produce mainly artisan-made yarn, which you might have seen in a couple of my designs. These products are distributed in Canada by Diamond Yarn, and that is why they made the interview. In Canada, the line of products is called Manos Artesanas, and I am very proud of our work! We sure make special yarns :D.
Here are a some free patterns for you to enjoy!
Hope you enjoy them!

5 years old / 5 años
Today, my Mariano is turning 5. He is quite a big man now. He's grown up to be a very good son, and I couldn't be more proud of him...I guess Iwon't be able to put into words what the whole family feels for him, so I won't try to. I'll just say:
HAPPY BIRTHDAY OUR LITTLE BOY!
WE LOVE YOU!
The day he was born.
The day he turned 1.
The day he turned 2. He already was a big brother...
The day he turned 3.
The day he turned 4.
Today he turns 5. And he can's stop putting silly faces when I approach with the cammera!
I hope I can get good ones of the party... :D
Knitting-related blog will return to its regular content after the birthday party!!!!

Mondays / Lunes
So...
I was thinking last week that this blog is not getting the attention it deserves... I spend too much time in Ravelry looking at other people's projects and reading what they write there... And I sometimes feel like sharing so much more than what I write there on my project's notes!
But oh well... For me... finding the right words when it comes to writing... Finding good pictures to post... Finding an interesting topic even! It is all a hard work. And sometimes, this makes me delay my posts here for ever and ever...
But anyway, I thought that maybe if I schedule or program myself to write here each Monday, no matter what... At least a picture! It will make you (my readers, whoever you are) come back here again!
So here I go. My first official Monday post (let's see how this lasts, shall we?)
So what I want to show you are 2 hats I have worked on during the last couple of weeks.
The first one is my Dragonflies Hat. This is my first hat pattern, and it was released today!
And a great friend of mine, wrote a beautiful introduction:
In Japan the dragonfly symbolizes success, victory, happiness, strength and courage.
When you first tackle this pattern you will need a little courage… but once you get going, the sense of success and strength you’ll get from realizing “hey, this is not difficult at all!” will bring you great happiness… This, together with the victory of having a new finished object, will be reflected by the beautiful dragonflies featured on your new hat.
It comes in three sizes, the Small size will make for a snug cap, the Medium size for a loose hat, and the Large size for a slouchy beret.
You can see more pictures here.
The other hat, I just finished yesterday, and Mariano helped me modelling it. It is adult sized, but his head is huge! LOL
So it is a really mindless project. But I love the style, I love the shape of the crown, and the button-tab detail.
I used Brooklytweed's Shelter for this project, and though it made my hands hurt a lot while knitting it, it softened and bloomed beautifully after the 1st wash, and the fabric I achieved was dreamy. I love my new hat!
You can read more about it here.

So what I want to show you are 2 hats I have worked on during the last couple of weeks.
The first one is my Dragonflies Hat. This is my first hat pattern, and it was released today!

Me encanta mi gorro nuevo!

Oh post something already! / Dale, posteá algo!
Well, a lot of things (good things) are going on here, and every time I feel like posting, I need to make up my mind about what I am going to post about... :D
Since we are here to read about knits, then I will give you knits!
I have a new pattern published, and I love it. I hope you do too... It is called Darling Emma. It is a wrap-style cardigan, worked seamlessly from the bottom up.
It is worked using a lightweight yarn (Tosh Merino Light) at a relatively loose gauge to achieve a light and airy fabric.
It is available in sizes 30 to 60.
Although it looks complicated, the lace pattern is really easy to memorize and makes the knitting fun (simple stockinette stitch would be so boring!)
It features 2 ties which can be wron as a belt when tied in the front, or the can be tied in the back for a more casual look.
The shawl collar is REALLY easy to make, and it is attached to the body as you work, so there is no seaming required!!!!
There are a lot of projects already in progress, it is awesome to see the project gallery grow...
Since we are here to read about knits, then I will give you knits!

It is available in sizes 30 to 60.

Opposite Poles
It is so nice to see what others make with my patterns...
I love to watch the galleries of finished projects in ravelry grow and diversify. I believe it helps knitters see what patterns look like in all sorts of body types.
And I especially love this image:
I especialmente me encanta esta imagen:

2 Opposite Poles. In very different body types, and in very different colors. I love mine, and I am sure Joëlle loves hers too.
2 Opposite Poles.

And check out what Marion did:
She tested the pattern and made one for herself. Since her daughter loved her so much, she modified the pattern and made one for her too!

Simple and plain generosity / Pura generosidad
Some time ago, after one of my designs was published in Ravelry, a very lovely lady called Nina contacted me, saying that she loved my work and that she wanted to dye some yarn for me...
I though she wanted me to design with her yarn, and unfortunately, since I had already a tight schedule for my knits, I explained to her that I wasn't going to be able to do it...
Oh no! -she said- I just want you to have it and enjoy it.
Can you believe it? This woman is amazing.
She asked me what my favorite colors were and then she created some yarn especially for me...
The fabulous yarn she sent arrived yesterday by mail. And it was absolutely breathtaking! So let's show some pictures.
Oh no!
Check out these purples.
Miren estos violetas.

And she also sent some beyond cute stitch markers.

You can't imagine how big this is! Compare it with my hand...

Still can't see how big this is? Compare it with my son! Sebi loved it too...

New Haircut / Nuevo corte de pelo
My kids' hair was a mess!!! For years we took them to the hair-dresser and asked him to cut as short as possible. But this time, I felt they deserved to choose for themselves! Sebi, the youngest, decided that he wanted the usual hair-style. But Nano, my eldest, said he wanted it long so that he could wear gel... He's so big! Well, anyway, this is what I brough home.
My two male models...

My sleeve master / Mi "Sleeve Master"
This last year has been crazy. I published my first adult design in ravelry in December, and I became addicted to this job!
But it actually involved a lot much work than I thought... So much work that it actually left very little time for actual knitting. I can't ask anybody to knit my samples because (at least in my experience), I come up with the final design as I work on it... So I need to do it myself. But I found that I could ask a special lady to do the "dirty" job for me...
This special lady, I call her my "Sleeve Master". She receives my sleeveless sample, partially wound balls of yarn, and very rought directions like:
_You know what to do right? You make the sleeve cap and then decrease as usual, you know... Call me when you get up to here, see? The middle of my forearm... And we'll see if this is working... And otherwise we froG, right? Well, call me! And hurry up!_
Yes, I know, this lady is someone too special... This lady is my Mom.
I am so very blessed to have her supporting me in everything that I have started and envisioned. And I am blessed to have her in my life for many other reasons! But I felt like this one was special to have her in my blog...
I LOVE YOU MOM!!!

A new toy / Chiche nuevo...
Thanks to my good friend Ale, who brought it to me directly from the US, I am enjoying my new toy! I have a brand new cammera after my old one crashed on the floor and broke down...
So I attacked my models this morning, anxious to try it!

In the meantime, I am slowly but faithfully working on my Opposite Pole, a cabled version of an old pattern of mine. It is a very enjoyable knit... The trick about this one is that is is almost reversible. Since the collar needs to be folded over, I thought that regular cables would just look weird. So I used some "magic cables" that look equally well on both sides, and make this really warm and special... The garter stitch finishes the trick for a completely reversible piece.

Phew!
Are we already in July? Where did the rest of my year go????
I have not been able to knit that much this year. Mostly because I found that I really love to design… And writing up the patterns is taking most of my free time…
But I get such a great response everywhere that I decided it is now my new favorite thing to do… And after all, I do knit all my samples, so a little knitting gets done now and then…
I am currently working on a new project/design and I am traying a very famous yarn for the first time. I am working with Madelinetosh Tosh Merino Light. Oh my God! This yarn is absolutely fabulous!
I have no idea how they do it, but the yarn sees to be dyed in a lighter shade in the inside, and a darker shade in the outside… Something like what is done with the indigo dyes and cotton… But in wool!
I’ve no idea how they make that, but it is aboslutely gorgeous. I have seen some other shades of this yarn and they are unbelievable.
So even though this was quite an investment for me (I don’t think I have ever spent this much money in yarn for a single project), I decided to buy some and waited patiently for 25 days until it arrived at my doorstep.
It took me a few days to decide what to make with it, but now I am finally on my way and it is flowing smoothly.
I am going to make a simple cardigan with draped lacy fronts and big collar. Something very feminine, and I really hope this turns out as I plan. I have a feeling this is going to be my new favorite cardigan…

Faaaa!!!!!
Ya estamos en Julio? A dónde se fue el resto de mi año????
Este año no he podido tejer demasiado.

New pattern! / Nuevo patrón! - ECUADOR
After a long time without finishing any project, I finally published a new pattern, Ecuador.
I hope you like it!!!

Ecuador is a very light and drapey cardigan, worked with fingering yarn (Malabrigo Sock) at a fairly loose gauge. It features an A-line shape, with draped fronts and a very simple lace pattern in the body. This pattern is absolutely seamless and it includes directions for a short-sleeved and a long-sleeved version.
It is based on another pattern of mine: Pole. So if you are familiar with that pattern, you will find the instructions very similar to it. Changes include:
* Different gauge
* Different collar
* Lace pattern in the body
* Set-in sleeves with short row shaping
Sizes
To fit chest:
30/32 (34/36, 38/40, 42/44, 46/48, 50/52, 54/56, 58/60) inches; 75/80 (85/90, 95/100, 105/110, 115/120, 125/130, 135/140, 145/150) cm.
Materials
Yarn: Malabrigo Yarn Sock (440 yd /100g), or any other fingering weight yarn that knits to the gauge.
Short sleeved version: 3 (3, 4, 4, 5, 6, 6, 7) skeins
Long sleeved version: 4 (4, 4, 5, 5, 6, 7, 7) skeins
Needles: 3.5mm (US 4) straight or circular needles for the back piece and body. 3.5mm (US 4) and 3.0mm (US 2 ½) double pointed needles or a long circular needle (for magic loop) for the sleeves.
Gauge (in Stockinette Stitch)
22 stitches and 40 rows to 4 inches (10 cm) on US 4 (3.5mm) needles, after blocking. It is very important that you get a loose fabric!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

* Lana más finita
* Cuello diferente (cae como un chal)
* Diseño calado en el cuerpo
* Mangas con copa de manga trabajada con hileras acortadas

Talles
PAra medida de busto:
30/32 (34/36, 38/40, 42/44, 46/48, 50/52, 54/56, 58/60) pulgadas; 75/80 (85/90, 95/100, 105/110, 115/120, 125/130, 135/140, 145/150) cm.
Materiales

I hope you like it!!!
